12" x 9" scratchboard drawing of one of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department dogs. I'd wanted to draw a working K9 for quite some time and was able to take some great reference photos at a couple of K9 events in 2014.
Ronin retired in 2017 and passed in 2018 after a stellar career and a happy life. EOW 5-22-2018, RIP Ronin, you were an amazing dog with the heart of a warrior!
Scratched almost entirely with a #16 X-Acto, although I used a tattoo needle to knock back the lettering and in a few other places. Colored with ink: Derwent Inktense on Ronin, a warm grey Pitt marker on the line work in the black areas. See the Zoomify of the drawing here: Ronin-Zoom
This drawing was in the 2018 Society of Animal Artists' Exhibition, it received an Award of Excellence at the 2015 International Society Of Scratchboard Artists Exhibition, and a 1st place in the Mixed Media/Other division in the Placer Artists League 2015 Open Juried Show.
The original has sold, but metal prints are available.
