“Chromed Grace” Accepted in AWA Exhibition

I’m thrilled to announce that “Chromed Grace”, my scratchboard drawing of a chrome greyhound hood ornament, has been accepted in the American Women Artists‘ annual juried Exhibition. I joined AWA at the end of last year, so this is my first time submitting work to one of their shows. Competition was tough with 1503 entries from 540 artists. 110 works were accepted (only 1 per artist). Click here for the list of accepted artists.

Due to logistics issues in light of the COVID-19 situation, the 2020 Exhibition, “Making Their Mark”, will be held online, opening May 27th. The Exhibition runs through August 23rd. Works in the virtual show will be available for sale.

Here are a few of in-progress images of this drawing:

“Strokes of Genius 10” Now Available

My scratchboard drawing, “Safety”, appears full-page in the just-released Strokes of Genius 10: Inspiring Subjects book published by North Light Books. I learned that this work had been selected for inclusion in September of last year; it takes quite some time for the books to be edited and produced. A sidebar article about Strokes 10 appeared in the Auburn Journal earlier this month. Another of my scratchboard drawings, “Tell Me More About Sheep…”, has appeared in Strokes of Genius 7 and Art Journey Animals (another North Light publication).

Featured in “Step by Step” Article in {E-VOLVED} Magazine

In October 2016, I meet Christina Diaz, the editor of {E-VOLVED} Magazine, at the City of Trees Art & Ink Expo. She asked me to submit a scratchboard drawing as a step by step and I already had all the components from when I initially created the drawing of K9 Ronin. It’s pretty amazing where one’s art can end up, and it always helps to be prepared and open to ideas! I would never have imagined that one of my scratchboards would end up in a tattoo industry magazine, but there it is.

“Let’s Go!” Receives Best in Show Award

It was a surprise and an honor to learn at the opening reception that “Let’s Go!” a scratchboard drawing of my friend’s dog, Fidget, received the Best in Show (Gold) Award in the Master’s (MSA) Division of the 2018 International Society of Scratchboard Artists‘ Annual Exhibition. The juror for the MSA Division, Jean Vance, had this to say about the drawing after I wrote to thank her for choosing my work for the Gold Award: “When I walked into the gallery, I immediately was captured by your entry; the composition, values and fine detail that exemplified the beauty and technique of scratchboard.  You are correct in saying that any in the Master’s division could have been considered, but yours spoke the loudest and spoke to me of joy.” I am truly grateful that she saw something special in this work, as the subject is a very special dog. Fidget was a senior dog with cancer when my friend adopted her, yet she thrived and is still going strong (although slowing down now) nearly 5 years later. The Best in Show Award belongs to Fidget as well!

K9 Ronin Accepted in SAA Exhibition

“K9 Ronin” is headed to St. Petersberg Florida for the Society of Animal Artists’ 58th  Annual “Art and the Animal” Exhibition. The Exhibition runs July 28 a October 23, 2018 at the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art. After the Exhibition ends in Florida, there will be a touring exhibition of select works, so itas a possibility that Ronin could do some traveling. I’m honored to have a work selected for this Exhibition; SAA competition is extremely tough. I’m grateful that the judges saw something special in this drawing.

“Diminutive Phoenix” and “Lets Go!” Headed to OH

The International Society of Scratchboard Artists’ annual Exhibition is approaching. I’ve sent two scratchboard drawings to the show. As a Master-level member (MSA) my work is not required to be juried in and I’m allowed to submit up to two works. “Phoenix” was already completed, and I had planned to finish another piece, but my personal life got in the way and I didn’t have the time I needed. I switched gears and created “Let’s Go!”, a smaller drawing that required less time. I’ll finish the other drawing for the 2019 Exhibition.
