Award of Excellence

For "Sleeping Patterns"

I'm honored to announce that "Sleeping Patterns", my drawing of two tigers, received an Award of Excellence in the Second Annual Juried Exhibition of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA). I was able to attend the opening reception with my husband John, and it was icing on the cake to receive this award. John & I rented a car and drove to Vancouver for the exhibit and the ISSA members' meeting and workshops. At the workshop, I demonstrated my technique for adding color to scratchboard. I used the in-progress drawing of Bowie the Toy Manchester Terrier as my demo. The finished piece is below.

Colfax Art Walk
Friday, August 9th, 3 - 8 pm

If you're in the Colfax, CA area, please join me at the Art Walk opening reception. My gracious host is Pam Firpo, owner and groomer at the Doggie Depot at
9 Depot Street, #1. A number of my scratchboard works will be on display, including the finished version of the kitten below. He still needs some color and a title! I'll also be demonstrating my scratchboard technique and will have some cards & prints for sale. The show will remain at Doggie Depot through September 9th. I'll donate a percentage of any work sold at Art Walk to Angels Rescuing Kritters (ARK).

Basics of Art Marketing
Monday, September 9th in Colfax CA
4 - 5:30 pm

I've been invited to present this topic at the monthly Sierra Vista Art Center's meeting. We could easily spend an entire day on the subject, but I'll touch on the basics and hope to include social media, web sites, blogs, on-line shops, e-newsletters and entering art shows. I'll also discuss the importance of viewing art as a business. Bring your laptop if you have one. There will be a meeting of the Art Center members from 3 - 4, the public is welcome.

At the Sierra Vista Community Center, 55 School Street, RM C - near the ball field

Style Magazine Cover
And Speaking of Treating Art as a Business . . .

I'm thrilled to share that my painting of "Ernie" is on the cover of the August issue of the Roseville Granite Bay Rocklin edition of Style Magazine!
A few weeks ago, I received a request via e-mail from one of the editors for a couple of high resolution files of some of my pet art for a feature about people and their pets. I still don't know how the editor found out about me, but because I had what she needed easily accessible, I was able to provide what she needed in a very short time frame. Her deadline was "this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest". I have no doubt that if I hadn't been prepared I would have missed out on a wonderful opportunity! And of course, I have to mention that the original painting is still available.

Follow Me on Facebook

In the past year or so, Facebook has become my go-to place to announce events, awards, etc. I will still continue to send out my newsletters, but I'm not always getting them out every other month as I had planned. That means some events don't make it into the newsletter if the timing is off when I create a newsletter. Plus, I don't want to overwhelm readers with an overly long newsletter (and this one would have been if I had included all the things I wanted to). So, for those of you on Facebook, please "Like" my art page to keep current. Note that you do not need a Facebook account to view the page, however, if you want to "like" the page and leave comments, you will need an account.
